Liverpool drew 0-0! :( Gerrard started on the bench!!!
"Rafael Benitez made it clear after Liverpool's 0-0 draw away to PSV Eindhoven in their opening Champions League Group C match that not even Steven Gerrard can be certain of a place in the side.
The Anfield skipper was one of six players axed from the side that lost the Mersey derby to Everton on Saturday, and Benitez explained: 'Steven was on the bench as were several other senior players, Xabi Alonso, Peter Crouch, Sami Hyypia, but people only mention Gerrard.
'We must accept that nobody can play at 100% for every match, it was a very difficult game against Everton and you can see that the players who were involved for all that game were on the bench.
'If you are not 100% fit and ready then you will be rested like that. It will happen to different players.' "
I think Benitez is trying to build a side that will be strong without gerrard. He's trying to erase the "one-man team brand off Liverpool. Well, liverpool had been pretty much a one-man team. Gerrard won the CL and FA Cup for liverpool. While I agree with the motive of his action, I have to disappointed that he doesn't really consider it carefully. Liverpool without Gerrard, Alonso, Hyypia??? No wonder they played so badly. I think Benitez have to make the change slowly not abruptly like this. It does liverpool no good!!! Then again, he's the expert.
I was able to watch the first 25min of the match live on the net :D Saw Gerrard on the bench. Haven't seen him on TV for a long long long time (almost 3 months, the last being the world cup). So I was so happy to see him again. But I could be happier if he's playing instead of warming the bench. Honestly, the away yellow jersey didn't look that bad! Not sure if it's because of the color quality.
I had the most interesting Business orientation lecture ever! The speaker was good!!! He entertained the audience with his great sense of humor. We're talking about the how to success in college. First, it's all about perception. If you look neat and presentable, people (your professors and other students will have a good impression on you. If you are nice to your prof. he or she might give you a good result for your exams!) He gave example of two authors. One is the authro who wrote "man is from mars and women is from venus" and the other one is the author who wrote about why marriage succeed and fail. The former wrote based on experience whil the latter wrote based on his research of following 2000 couples for 20 years and he can predict with 94% accuracy if your marriage will work out just by talking to you. The speaker said, "Impressive isn't it? He can predict with 94% accuracy if your marriage will work out just by talking to you! But it's unfair too. Because when it didn't work out, who's to blame? Your spouse. For example, he's a loser, he's always drunk... But the thing is you picked him. He wasn't sent to you. YOu wasn't being forced to married him. You chose him! So who's fault is it now?" The next thing is that "college is a scam". Many college graduates can't find a good job, many don't find jobs related to what they studied... Successful people like Bill Gates, Steve Job, Donald Trump, didn't graduate from college but they are more successful that those who graduate! But, they are smart and ambitios. So even if college is a scam, you should not drop out of college but make the most of your college education, joining organization, etc. Because, who will get the better impression college grads or college drop out? Well, the talk was really more entertaining that how I wrote it.
Before he ends his presentation, he shared with us the 3 keys to happiness- self-delusion, hyprocracy, ignorance. Self-delusion. I think I know everything, but the truth is I don't know anything! For example, he said that half of us are below the average. And many of us may think that "well, that can't be me. I'm above average!!!" Self-delusion. Ignorance! Then, he proceed to say that many smart students will always say that they flunk the test or they did badly for the test right after they take the test! Because they tend to take things seriously. They are worried because of a few questions that they do not know and because of that, they think they will fail the test. ANd in the end, they still get A! Smart and successful people are people who are worried all the time, who say that they don't know anything, who will blame themselves for their own failure. And those not so smart people tend to be confident about their own ability! They will say that they know everything, but fail the exam. See, if you're confident, things won't go your way. But when you're low in confidence, you did well. So should we be confident or not in order to success???
ANyway, he continued to say at the end of class, there would be evalutation sheet that students will have to fill in. And he will compete with his collegues to see who have the highest evaluation points and he always win. He said that his collegues will give students handouts, clues for exams to gain the favour of the students, especially the "morons". But for him, he would give the evalution sheets during the final exam. The "morons" will feel confident after taking the exam (because they feel that they know everything and they will excel in the exam) so they will give the professor good evaluation. Even if they fail their exam, it will be too late to change the evalutation! haha... smart! He also mentioned about people complaining that they're not a good test takers. He said that there's no such thing as bad test taker. Lousy baseball player, yes. The ball may be too high or too low or your coordination is bad. Yes, I get it. But in test, the answers don't move. It stays there. You're not a lousy test takers. You're a lousy answer getters!
The whole lecture theare was so lively today! If only every lecture or talks are like this!
